Poliomyelitis is an infectious viral disease which affects the central nervous system and can cause temporary or permanent paralysis. The virus of this disease spread by direct person-to-person contact, or contact with infected mucus or phlegm from the nose or mouth and contact with infected feces. In poliomyelitis virus enters through the mouth and nose and spread through the blood and lymph system.

This disease is caused by infection with the polio virus. There are many causes of this disease like lack of immunization against polio and travel to an area that has experienced a polio outbreak.
