General cleaning of computer is necessary on frequent basis. How often you need to clean your computer depends on the environment where your computer is being operated. Many computer faults are caused by components overheating due to poor airflow in the case because of a buildup of dirt and dust over time. It’s worthwhile cleaning your computer annually or even more often if it is in a particularly dusty environment such as on carpet or in a household with pets.
Cleaning the computer is not rocket science and does not require any special skills. Only you do need to know how to avoid possible damage to some of the more sensitive parts of CPU. It’s easy to do and it only takes about 20 minutes. Here in this article I am sharing some useful tips for cleaning of any component of your computer.

Dust and dirt prevent proper air flow and may even prevent the fan from proper working of CPU. Below is a listing of items you may need or want to use while cleaning your computer.

When cleaning a component or the computer, turn it off before cleaning.
Do not attempt to clean your computer with electricity flowing through its circuits. Be sure that the power cable is unplugged.
It is always safer to remove all peripherals such as USB cables, audio cables, video cables, and especially the power cable
Open up your computer’s case.
Remove the dust buildup on your case fans.
Remove the dust buildup from the power supply. The heat sink and fan that’s mounted on your processor should be cleaned as well.
To make the cleaning process easier, it is best to take out any components that can be easily removed such as RAM sticks, video cards, and hard drives.
Do not remove your processor because thermal paste that is used to transfer heat from the top of the processor to the fan needs to be replaced every time the fan is removed.
Don not disturbs jumpers while cleaning the computer.
Computer hard drives cannot be cleaned. However, they can be cleaned with software utilities to help it run fast and efficiently.
Headphones being used are plastic, moisten a cloth with warm water and rub the head and earpieces of the headphones.
To clean a keyboard using compressed air aim between the keys and blow away all of the dust and debris that has gathered there. A vacuum cleaner can also be used. When cleaning the LCD or LED screen, it is important to remember to not spray any liquids onto the screen directly. Press gently while cleaning and do not use a paper towel, since it can scratch the screen.
To clean the LCD or LED screen, use a non-rugged microfiber cloth, soft cotton cloth, or duster. If a dry cloth does not completely clean the screen, you can apply rubbing alcohol to the cloth and wipe the screen with a damp cloth.
A glass monitor screen can be cleaned with ordinary household glass cleaner.
To Clean Optical Laser Mouse. Blowing air on the bottom of the mouse clears away any dirt, dust, hair, or other obstructions that may be blocking the optical sensor.
You can use vacuum cleaner to clean the computer components but don’t use home vacuum cleaner for this purpose. Special portable battery vacuum cleaners are available in the market to clean computers.
Use a vacuum to suck up dust and debris. Never use a vacuum on the inside of your computer. This is very dangerous to do because static electricity flows through your computer. A vacuum could damage the internal components of your computer.
Never spray or squirt any liquid onto any computer component. If a spray is needed, spray the liquid onto a cloth.
Take a cloth with water or rubbing alcohol and wipe the case and each of the buttons or knobs on the computer outer case.
Clean a flatbed scanner’ surface by spraying a window cleaner onto a paper towel or cotton cloth and wipe the glass until clean.
Don’t let any computer component become wet from inside.
Finally, dust off all the ports on the computer with compressed air and clean all the exterior vents with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.
Make sure not to blow dust back into the PC.
Make sure nothing has been left inside the case and nothing is likely to get caught in the fans.
Cables that were moved to get access to other items should be put back in place.
The cables going to the optical drives, CD/DVD drive and hard drives to check none have been dislodged.
Reconnect the power cable. Plug into the power outlet and switch on computer.
